Prof.Dr. Jusuf Anwar was born in Tasikmalaya, West Java, and gained his early education in Bandung. Dr. Anwar studied for his Master of Law at Padjajaran University Law School, then went on to achieve a Master of Arts (Economics) from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, before returning to Padjadjaran Graduate School of Law for his Ph. D.

In addition to these degree programs, Prof.Dr. Anwar has also attended numerous educational courses on finance and economics throughout the world, including the University of Colorado, the Australian Administrative Staff College in Melbourne, the New York Institute of Finance, the Economic Development Institute of the World Bank in Zurich, Harvard Business School, the University of Indonesia, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the London School of Government.

From 1978 to 1992, Prof.Dr. Anwar held several high-ranking positions in the Indonesian Ministry of Finance, including the posts of Executive Secretary of the Capital Market Supervisory Agency and Director of External Funds in the Directorate General of the Budget. He then assumed the duties of President and CEO of Danareksa Securities and Investment, a state owned enterprise. In 1993, he returned to the Ministry of Finance as Secretary General, a position he held until 1995 before becoming Chairman of the Education and Training Agency at the Ministry. Following this, in 1998 Prof.Dr. Anwar became Chairman of the Capital Market Supervisory Agency and from 2000 to 2004 he was Executive Director of the Asian Development Bank based in Manila and representing Indonesia, New Zealand, the Republic of Kyrgyz, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji and the Cook Islands. In 2004 he served as the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia under the Presidency of H. E Dr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and in October 2006 he assumed his duties as Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Japan and the Federated States of Micronesia.

Prof.Dr. Anwar has also served on and chaired numerous governmental and educational teams and committees, including – among others – being Chairman of the Indonesian Delegation to the Economic Committee of APEC, the Head of the Indonesian Technical Team of the Paris Club, and Chairman of the Jakarta Initiative Task Force for Corporate Restructuring. In addition to his extensive knowledge of economics, Prof.Dr. Anwar is also an authority on law. He has served on several steering committees on Indonesian legislation, was a member of the Expert Team of the Indonesian Ministry of Justice, and acted as Chairman of the National Committee on Good Corporate Governance. He also lectured at Padjajaran University’s Graduate School of Law, Pasundan University in Bandung and the State Accounting College in Jakarta. Prof.Dr. Anwar has received the Distinguished Service Medal from the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as the 20 Years Loyal Service Decoration in recognition of his long and loyal service. He has been a speaker at numerous international and domestic seminars and taken part in bilateral and multilateral negotiations in a variety of forums.
